On electric ovens, the leading causes are a failed bake element ($150 to $280 replacement), a failed broil element ($150 to $280), or a failed control board ($250 to $500). Elements are the most common failure on electric ovens 8 years old and up.
On gas ovens, the leading causes are a failed igniter ($180 to $320, one of the most common gas oven failures) or a failed gas valve solenoid ($150 to $250). Both are common wear items on any age gas oven.
Secondary causes: blown thermal fuse, failed high-limit thermostat, or broken heating element wire.
